About the Role

The Acute Permanent Pool offers Registered Nurses the opportunity to work across several hospital sites and specialty services within Barwon Health. This role provides excellent clinical variety and exposure, allowing nurses to broaden their expertise across multiple disciplines.

Depending on your experience and interests, you may work in one or more of the following specialty areas:

  • Critical Care
  • Oncology
  • Medical Services
  • Surgical Services
  • Renal Services
  • Cardiac Services
  • Sub-Acute Care

As a member of the Acute Permanent Pool, flexibility is essential. Nurses are expected to work up to 50% weekend shifts and up to 30% night shifts as part of the roster.

Key Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse at Barwon Health, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality healthcare services to patients across the region.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing patient-centred nursing care using evidence-based clinical practice
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to plan and deliver care
  • Monitoring patient progress and evaluating treatment outcomes
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and records
  • Ensuring compliance with healthcare safety standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives across clinical services

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A minimum of 12 months clinical nursing experience
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Sound clinical knowledge and practical nursing skills
  • The ability to provide evidence-based, high-quality patient care
  • A commitment to delivering consumer-centred care aligned with Barwon Health standards

About the Central Resource Unit (CRU)

The Central Resource Unit (CRU) manages the Acute Permanent Pool at Barwon Health. This team provides staffing support across hospital departments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

CRU ensures that clinical units across Barwon Health are appropriately resourced to manage both planned and unexpected staffing needs. The unit is staffed by:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Registered Midwives (including dual registration)
  • Endorsed Enrolled Nurses
