As a Specialist Research Nurse, you will play a key role in increasing patient participation in clinical studies while ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and data integrity.
Working within a dynamic Research and Development team, you’ll contribute to innovative healthcare research that directly improves patient outcomes across North Wales.
Role Overview
This is a fixed-term (2 years) opportunity designed to support the growing demand for high-quality clinical research within BCUHB.
You will manage a caseload of patients participating in clinical trials, supporting every stage of the research journey—from recruitment and consent to monitoring and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Research Delivery
- Support the recruitment, education, and monitoring of patients involved in clinical studies
- Ensure all research activities align with trial protocols, GCP (Good Clinical Practice), and regulatory standards
- Perform clinical procedures and assessments as part of the research pathway
Patient Care & Support
- Act as a key point of contact for patients and carers במהלך their participation in studies
- Provide expert advice, reassurance, and ongoing care throughout the research process
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work closely with senior nurses, multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), and wider research teams
- Contribute to the coordination and management of clinical study caseloads
- Communicate complex clinical and research information clearly and effectively
Data & Performance Contribution
- Collect, record, and manage high-quality research data
- Support the successful delivery of research targets and performance metrics within the Health Board

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
- Strong understanding of:
- Research governance and legislation
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- National research frameworks
Essential Experience
- Experience working with patients/clients within a clinical setting
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Background in clinical research or extensive expertise in a specialist clinical area (e.g., diabetes, mental health)
Desirable
- Project management experience
Key Skills & Attributes
- Ability to work independently and make informed clinical decisions
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload effectively
- Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex information to patients and teams
- High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy

- Ability to speak Welsh (applications welcome in both Welsh and English)
