About the Role

The MDS Nurse plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality care for residents by managing the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process with precision and consistency. This position ensures timely, accurate assessments in accordance with CMS guidelines, while promoting a positive, professional presence both within the medical community and in the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and complete all MDS assessments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support timely completion of Resident Assessment Protocols (RAPs) and Patient Care Plans.
  • Interview residents and families to obtain comprehensive medical and psychosocial information.
  • Monitor and validate medical records to support accurate MDS coding.
  • Maintain organized schedules to meet assessment deadlines.
  • Provide ongoing in-services and support to team members to enhance documentation accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Nursing, administrator, and other departments regarding any errors or process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current state nursing license (Tennessee).
  • Professional experience in geriatric nursing is required.
  • Knowledge and expertise in completing the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) is preferred.
  • AANAC Certification is a plus.

  • Critical thinking and attention to detail to ensure accurate assessments.
  • Physical ability to stand or walk 8–12 hours per day, lift up to 60–70 pounds occasionally, and perform routine bending, stooping, and manual tasks.
