About the Role
The MDS Nurse plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality care for residents by managing the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process with precision and consistency. This position ensures timely, accurate assessments in accordance with CMS guidelines, while promoting a positive, professional presence both within the medical community and in the broader community.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and complete all MDS assessments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal regulations.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support timely completion of Resident Assessment Protocols (RAPs) and Patient Care Plans.
- Interview residents and families to obtain comprehensive medical and psychosocial information.
- Monitor and validate medical records to support accurate MDS coding.
- Maintain organized schedules to meet assessment deadlines.
- Provide ongoing in-services and support to team members to enhance documentation accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Nursing, administrator, and other departments regarding any errors or process improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Current state nursing license (Tennessee).
- Professional experience in geriatric nursing is required.
- Knowledge and expertise in completing the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) is preferred.
- AANAC Certification is a plus.

- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
- Critical thinking and attention to detail to ensure accurate assessments.
- Physical ability to stand or walk 8–12 hours per day, lift up to 60–70 pounds occasionally, and perform routine bending, stooping, and manual tasks.
