Key Responsibilities of an MDS Nurse

Resident Assessment & Care Planning

• Lead and complete the RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) process in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Ensure accurate documentation, coding, and timely submission of MDS assessments.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary care plans based on individual resident needs.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Verify and transmit MDS data to state systems with accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards.
• Support quality improvement initiatives within the facility.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Work closely with nursing staff, physicians, and care teams.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented environment focused on resident-centered care.
• Act as a resource and mentor for staff on MDS processes and best practices.

Qualifications

Required Credentials

• Valid Texas Nursing License (RN or LPN)
• Current CPR Certification

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role within a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or related healthcare setting
• Strong understanding of MDS coordination and long-term care compliance standards
