Key Responsibilities

As an MDS Nurse, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate resident assessments and compliance with federal and state regulations. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the admission process, assessing residents’ nursing needs, and ensuring proper placement
  • Determining potential Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) and related expenses for admissions
  • Reviewing all admission applications for accuracy and completeness
  • Completing and maintaining accurate MDS documentation for all residents
  • Keeping current with Medicare criteria and staying compliant with the RAI Manual
  • Monitoring Case Mix Index (CMI) scores to identify potential risks or changes affecting Medicaid reimbursement
  • Ensuring timely submission of Medicare assessment schedules and nursing documentation
  • Maintaining accurate plans of care and updating them as residents’ needs change

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Preferred: 1 year experience in MDS or long-term care, or completion of MDS-specific training
  • Strong understanding of federal and state nursing regulations
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills
