Providing Expert Dermatologic and Long-Term Care Nursing

Key Responsibilities of a Treatment Nurse

Resident Assessment and Care Planning

  • Conduct thorough dermatologic and general nursing assessments using observation, inspection, and palpation.
  • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Complete quarterly physical dermatologic exams and record findings accurately.
  • Provide guidance to nursing staff and collaborate with physicians, consultants, and family members.

Treatment and Therapeutic Care

  • Administer treatments for uncomplicated dermatologic disorders under physician supervision.
  • Identify and manage skin conditions, including ulcers, infections, benign tumors, corns, callouses, and scaling diseases.
  • Monitor prophylaxis and treatment plans for decubitus ulcers, ensuring proper inspection, repositioning, diet, and hygiene.
  • Assist in resident rehabilitation activities, range of motion exercises, and ambulation support.

Safety, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Report occupational exposures, incidents, or suspected abuse according to facility policies.
  • Investigate and document complaints or grievances related to nursing care.
  • Ensure resident rights are respected, including refusal of treatment and adherence to advance directives.

Collaboration and Education

  • Participate in in-service training programs and continuing education to maintain licensure and enhance nursing skills.
  • Work with other healthcare agencies and family members to facilitate smooth transitions during admission, care, or discharge.
  • Support the planning and monitoring of inventory for medications, skin care products, and medical supplies.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current and valid nursing license (LPN or RN) in the state of Texas.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience in dermatologic nursing, long-term care, or behavioral health preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and assist residents safely, using personal protective equipment as required.
