Job Description

Are you an experienced oncology nurse ready to take the next step in your career? This is a unique opportunity to join a highly skilled team delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) across two leading sites—Sussex Cancer Centre and Princess Royal Hospital.

In this role, you’ll combine clinical expertise, leadership, and compassionate care, supporting patients and families through every stage of their cancer treatment journey.

As a Senior Staff Nurse (Oncology/SACT), you will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist cancer care and advanced clinical support to patients undergoing treatment.

Working across both sites, you will:

  • Lead by example in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care
  • Support and guide nursing staff within the SACT unit
  • Ensure high standards in treatment delivery and patient experience

This role is ideal for nurses with a strong background in oncology nursing, chemotherapy administration, and complex patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Coordinate and manage a clinical area within the SACT unit
  • Administer systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and intravenous treatments
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based care while monitoring patients throughout treatment
  • Manage acute reactions and complications, including chemotherapy-related emergencies

Specialist Oncology Expertise

  • Provide detailed, sensitive information to patients and families regarding:
    • Cancer diagnosis and prognosis
    • Treatment plans and side effects
    • Symptom management and supportive care
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of oncology medications and their potential complications

Advanced Clinical Skills

  • Perform cannulation and venepuncture with a high level of proficiency
  • Recognise and manage treatment-related risks such as extravasation
  • Ensure patient safety through vigilant monitoring and clinical judgement

Team Leadership & Service Support

  • Support the Unit Manager in staff coordination, resource management, and service delivery
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
  • Maintain high standards of clinical governance, safety, and quality improvement

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Nurse with valid UK NMC registration
  • Proven experience in oncology or SACT/chemotherapy nursing
  • Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities
  • Confidence in managing complex clinical situations
  • Commitment to continuous professional development

Important Information

  • Secondments: Approval from your current NHS Trust/manager is required before applying for a secondment opportunity.
  • Visa Sponsorship: This role is eligible under the Skilled Worker route, subject to criteria set by UK Visas and Immigration, including salary thresholds (minimum £25,000) and eligibility requirements.
