About the Specialised Decision Unit (SDU)
The SDU is a dedicated unit that provides rapid clinical assessment and short-term patient management for individuals referred by specialty teams. It is specifically designed for patients who are not suitable for outpatient care, immediate discharge, or direct hospital admission.
Within this unit, nurses work collaboratively to assess, observe, treat, and direct patients to the most appropriate care pathway. With a focused setup of six beds, SDU ensures personalized and efficient patient care, often within the same day.
Key Responsibilities
Rapid Patient Assessment
Conduct timely and accurate patient evaluations to support clinical decision-making, ensuring each patient receives appropriate care pathways such as observation, treatment, discharge, or referral.
Clinical Decision Support
Assist multidisciplinary teams in making quick and effective clinical decisions, improving patient flow and reducing delays in treatment.
Patient-Centered Care
Deliver individualized care tailored to each patient’s condition, ensuring safety, comfort, and dignity throughout their stay.
Care Coordination
Work closely with specialty teams to ensure seamless transitions between departments and optimize patient outcomes.
Efficiency & Patient Flow
Support the unit’s goal of reducing hospital stay duration by ensuring patients receive timely diagnostics and treatment, enabling safe and efficient discharge.
