The Paediatric Day Care Unit is a 7-bedded specialist unit providing holistic care for children and young people up to 18 years of age. Alongside this, Clinic 4D Children’s Outpatients offers a busy and varied environment with multiple specialist clinics led by multidisciplinary teams.
This role is ideal for a nurse who is eager to expand clinical expertise, take on responsibility, and contribute to improving patient outcomes in paediatric healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will:
Deliver High-Quality Patient Care
- Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to children and young people
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans
- Support families and carers throughout the patient journey
Clinical & Operational Duties
- Administer treatments including blood, platelet, and immunoglobulin infusions
- Assist with endocrine investigations, minor procedures, and sedation support
- Participate in nurse-led clinics such as phlebotomy, skin prick testing, and neonatal follow-ups
Leadership & Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and allied health professionals
- Take charge of the unit or outpatient clinic in the absence of senior staff
- Support and supervise student nurses and junior colleagues
Patient Experience & Safety
- Maintain a welcoming, safe, and child-friendly environment
- Ensure high standards of infection control and patient safety
- Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives
Specialist Areas You’ll Work In
This role offers exposure to a range of paediatric specialities, including:
- Haemoglobinopathy care
- Paediatric oncology
- Endocrinology
- Day case procedures and sedation services
- Nurse-led outpatient clinics (HIV, neonatal care, allergy testing)
