About Palatine Ward

A Highly Specialised Oncology & Haematology Unit

Palatine Ward is a 31-bed specialist unit delivering advanced care for:

  • Adults with haematological malignancies
  • Teenage and young adult (TYA) patients aged 16–24 with various cancers
  • Selected paediatric patients receiving radioiodine treatment

Advanced Facilities

  • All en-suite side rooms for patient comfort and privacy
  • Specialist HEPA-filtered isolation rooms for immunocompromised patients
  • Dedicated facilities for radioiodine radiotherapy treatment

Treatments You’ll Be Involved In

  • Chemotherapy and immunotherapy (SACT)
  • Stem cell transplants (autologous and allogeneic)
  • CAR T-cell therapy (innovative cellular treatment)
  • Radioiodine therapy

The ward is JACIE accredited, reflecting the highest standards in transplant and cellular therapy care.

Your Role as a Staff Nurse

As a Staff Nurse in oncology and haematology, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care in a complex clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients through clinical observations and fluid balance
  • Administer medications via multiple routes (oral, IV, subcutaneous, transdermal)
  • Manage and access central lines (e.g., PICC lines, Hickman lines)
  • Deliver and support Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT)
  • Escalate concerns to Acute Oncology Outreach and senior teams
  • Support advanced treatments including stem cell reinfusion and CAR T-cell therapy
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care
