Registered Nurse Role Overview

Key Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse

Clinical Care and Resident Support

  • Assess, plan, and evaluate resident care plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals
  • Monitor resident health conditions and document changes accurately
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders
  • Provide direct nursing care for seniors with dignity and compassion
  • Encourage resident participation in therapy programs and recreational activities

Leadership and Team Coordination

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs)
  • Support staff training, orientation, and professional development
  • Monitor team performance and provide coaching when needed
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and safety standards

Communication and Care Planning

  • Build strong relationships with residents, families, and healthcare providers
  • Participate in care conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate resident health updates to families and care teams
  • Support resident admissions and re-admissions

Required Qualifications

Candidates applying for this Registered Nurse position in Halifax should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Current registration with the Provincial Association of Registered Nurses

  • Valid CPR and Emergency First Aid certification
