About the Role
As a Registered Nurse at The Arc Montgomery County, you will play a critical role in ensuring high-quality health care for the people we support. While not providing direct care, you will monitor, delegate, and guide staff in delivering nursing services aligned with Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) regulations and the organization’s policies.

Key Responsibilities
Nursing Assessments & Care Planning
- Conduct comprehensive initial nursing assessments for newly assigned individuals.
- Develop and update Nursing Care Plans (NCPs) to guide staff in providing safe, quality care.
- Perform 45-day follow-ups and revise care plans as needed.
- Conduct focused assessments after urgent or emergency care, medication changes, or new diagnoses within 48 hours.
Medical Records & Compliance
- Review Professional Medical Order Forms (PMOFs) to ensure orders are current and accurate.
- Monitor medication administration, including Schedule 4 drugs, for compliance with MTTP and MBON regulations.
- Document non-compliance and implement Medication Error Action Plans when necessary.
- Provide ongoing staff retraining to uphold safe and effective nursing practices.
Delegation & Staff Training
- Delegate nursing tasks according to Maryland Nurse Practice Act and 10.27.11 Delegation Regulations.
- Train staff (CMTs and LPNs) on nursing procedures, medication administration, and care plan implementation.
- Conduct MTTP classes and refresher sessions to maintain compliance with DDA training requirements.
Communication & Advocacy
- Serve as a liaison between individuals, families, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Provide telephone triage and guidance to staff regarding health concerns.
- Attend PCP meetings and other relevant sessions to advocate for individuals’ health needs.
Other Duties
- Participate in Admissions, Discharge & Review Committee and Human Rights Committee activities.
- Provide recommendations for Tier III Behavior Plans, chemical and mechanical supports.
- Upload all nursing documentation into the agency database (CIMS) and maintain up-to-date records.
- Assist with COVID testing and other health initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current licensure in Maryland.
- Current CPR certification.
- Experience in DDA residential or home health services preferred.
- Ability to provide 24/7 telephone triage for supported individuals.
- Reliable transportation to all agency sites and homes.
- Commitment to maintaining RN license and RN/CM/DN certification per DDA regulations.
