Whānau Āwhina Plunket is seeking a Registered Nurse in Auckland to provide holistic, culturally responsive care to pēpi (babies), tamariki (children), and their whānau.
In this community-based nursing role, you’ll help families navigate early childhood development while ensuring children have the healthiest start in life.

The Opportunity: Community Registered Nurse
Location: Central Auckland, New Zealand
Job Type: Contract | Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
Work Style: On-site and community-based
As a Registered Nurse, you will work directly with families through home visits and clinic appointments, building trusted relationships and delivering culturally appropriate healthcare.
Your role will combine clinical expertise with compassionate support, ensuring children grow up in safe, nurturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct well-child health assessments and developmental checks
- Provide holistic support to parents and caregivers
- Identify and respond to health or social challenges affecting families
- Deliver community-based nursing services through home visits and clinics
- Build trusted relationships with whānau while supporting parenting confidence
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and community services
Working in the community means you’ll often meet families experiencing challenges—from financial stress to mental health concerns—and your support will make a genuine difference.
Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will bring both clinical expertise and emotional intelligence to your work with families.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse qualification
- Annual Practising Certificate (APC) or eligibility to obtain one
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Full or restricted clean NZ driver’s licence
- Strong clinical judgement and problem-solving ability
Preferred Qualities
- Experience in community nursing or primary healthcare
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while managing complex situations
- Compassionate, culturally aware approach to patient care
A New Zealand Police Vetting check will be required to ensure the safety of children and families.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range:
$66,222 – $94,842 annually
($33.51 – $48 per hour depending on experience)
