The hospital employs evidence-based practices and an interdisciplinary approach to support patient recovery, safety, and well-being. Key Responsibilities of a Nurse
As a Nurse at Logansport State Hospital, your daily responsibilities will include:
- Prioritizing and organizing patient care across the unit.
- Assisting in developing individualized treatment plans with clinical staff.
- Monitoring and documenting patients’ physical and psychosocial status from admission to discharge.
- Directing support staff and ensuring smooth workflow on the unit.
- Administering medications and treatments according to hospital policies.
- Developing and implementing nursing care plans for changes in patient needs.
- Educating patients and families on procedures, medications, and treatment goals.
- Responding to emergencies and intervening with agitated or distressed patients.
- Ensuring safety and infection control standards are maintained.
- Supporting and mentoring new staff on the unit.
This role may also include supervisory responsibilities depending on agency needs.
Required Qualifications
To succeed as a Nurse with the State of Indiana, candidates must:
- Hold an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Maintain a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Have current CPR certification and stay updated on behavioral intervention training.
- Be proficient in electronic medical records and MS Office applications.
- Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Understand medical and facility terminology and be able to advocate for patients effectively.
Additional knowledge may be required for specialty populations, including children, adolescents, or geriatric patients.
