Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the Helensburgh & Lomond District Nursing Team as a Band 6 District Nurse Development Post (Annex 21). This role offers a structured pathway into a District Nurse leadership position within a supportive and forward-thinking community nursing team.

The successful candidate will take part in a supported development programme, working under supervision while completing the NES Integrated Community Nursing Pathway (including V300 Prescribing) or an equivalent recognised qualification.

About the Service

The Helensburgh & Lomond locality supports a mixed urban and rural population of around 26,000 patients across five GP practices. The community nursing team provides person-centred care seven days a week, including complex care and palliative support.

Notably, the team helps more than 95% of patients who wish to receive end-of-life care at home to do so safely and comfortably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care within an assigned caseload under supervision
  • Contribute to advanced care planning and clinical decision-making
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Participate in leadership development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support safe, effective care within community healthcare settings

Development Framework

This position follows a 12-month development programme under Agenda for Change Annex 21.

During the programme, the post holder will:

  • Receive 75% of the Band 6 maximum salary while completing the required training and competencies
  • Work under clinical supervision while developing skills in caseload management
  • Progress to a substantive Band 6 District Nurse role upon successful completion of the qualification and competency assessment

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Community nursing experience and enrolment in a recognised post-registration programme such as the NES Integrated Community Nursing Pathway (including V300) or equivalent
  • Strong clinical, communication, and organisational skills
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in community nursing or leadership roles
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Familiarity with electronic care planning and clinical record systems
