Ford Ward is looking for a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Deputy Ward Sister to help lead a dedicated team delivering high-quality care to patients with complex frailty needs.
As a Deputy Ward Sister, you will play a key role in supporting the Ward Sister while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Ford Ward specialises in caring for patients with frailty-related conditions, including:
- Dementia and cognitive impairment
- Chronic respiratory disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Heart disease
- Diabetes and complex comorbidities
This is a dynamic and rewarding role that combines clinical leadership, hands-on patient care, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with complex frailty and long-term conditions
- Lead the ward in the absence of the Ward Sister
- Ensure patient safety, dignity, and wellbeing are maintained at all times
- Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
Team Support & Development
- Mentor and support junior nurses and healthcare staff
- Foster a positive, collaborative team environment
- Assist with staff training, supervision, and performance development
- Encourage innovation and continuous learning within the team
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care
- Support complex discharge planning and patient transitions
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and carers
- Build strong relationships with internal and external care providers
Governance & Quality Improvement
- Support audits, clinical governance, and ward development projects
- Assist in reviewing incidents, complaints, and service improvements
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and quality care
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Nurse with relevant clinical experience
- Strong background in elderly care, frailty, and dementia nursing
- Proven leadership or senior nursing experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain resilient and supportive in challenging situations
- Passion for mentoring, education, and team development
