About the Role

As a Dementia Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in strengthening dementia care pathways — from early identification and comprehensive cognitive assessment to post-diagnostic support and long-term care planning.

Working closely with individuals, whānau, GPs, and community providers, you’ll ensure coordinated, evidence-based support that enhances quality of life and reduces avoidable hospital admissions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Dementia Nurse Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct specialist dementia and cognitive assessments
  • Develop personalised, culturally safe care plans

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting

Skills & Experience Required

To succeed in this dementia nursing role, you will need:

  • Registered Nurse with current APC (Annual Practising Certificate)
  • Experience supporting people living with dementia
  • Strong understanding of dementia assessment tools and evidence-based interventions
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commitment to person- and whānau-centred care
  • Postgraduate qualification in gerontology, mental health, or dementia care (desirable)
