We are currently seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant – Infection Prevention to join the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service at the City Campus. Position Overview

This role involves working within the Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service to support the development and delivery of infection control strategies. You will contribute to improving patient safety through evidence-based practices and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Employment Type: Full-time permanent (part-time considered)
  • Hours: 80 hours per fortnight (Monday to Friday, including ADO)
  • Location: Royal Melbourne Hospital – City Campus
  • Classification: Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 5 (ZA7/ZA8)

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will play a vital role in infection prevention initiatives across the hospital.

  • Participate in the development, delivery, and evaluation of infection prevention programs
  • Monitor, measure, and report infection control performance
  • Provide expert advice based on best practices, legislation, and clinical guidelines
  • Support the development and implementation of infection prevention policies
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote patient-centred care
  • Deliver education, toolkits, and resources to support clinical teams
  • Contribute to process improvement projects and safety initiatives
  • Promote accountability for infection prevention practices among staff and stakeholders
  • Participate in infection prevention rosters, including occupational exposure management
  • Use effective communication strategies to support infection control awareness

About You

We are looking for a motivated and experienced nurse with strong clinical knowledge and communication skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience participating in workplace projects
  • Completion of a postgraduate qualification

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working within an Infection Prevention team
  • Postgraduate qualification in infection prevention and control
  • HIV pre and post-test counselling certification
  • Hand hygiene auditor experience
