Role Overview – Charge Nurse

As a Charge Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in managing nursing care within correctional health units. This leadership position blends clinical expertise with administrative responsibilities, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and staff coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign daily nursing tasks and oversee their completion.
  • Maintain accurate patient data using Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Assist or perform medical exams and document interventions.
  • Administer medications safely and maintain compliance with protocols.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, quality care.
  • Participate in unit planning, management, and staff meetings.
  • Monitor patient access to care and maintain safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate counts of medical instruments, sharps, and keys.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Valid RN license approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Minimum two years of nursing experience, with at least six months as a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • One year experience as a Charge Nurse.
  • Experience in corrections or correctional healthcare.
