The University of South Carolina School of Medicine is seeking a dedicated Attendant Care Nurse to support its Center for Disability Resources. About the Role
As an Attendant Care Nurse, you will play a vital role in planning, implementing, and evaluating specialized nursing services within the Attendant Care Project. Your work will directly impact individuals with disabilities, chronic conditions, and long-term care needs by ensuring they receive high-quality, individualized support.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
- Standard hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Flexible scheduling based on program needs
- Telecommuting role with travel across assigned counties
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Evaluation
- Assess participants and attendants to ensure safe, effective care delivery
- Evaluate and certify individuals for self-directed or representative-directed care
- Conduct home visits and re-evaluations as needed
Training & Education
- Provide individualized and group training for participants, caregivers, and attendants
- Develop educational materials tailored to patient needs and diagnoses
- Support skill development for safe and effective caregiving
Care Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate with healthcare programs such as community long-term care, public health services, and disability support systems
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with program guidelines
- Communicate regularly with project leadership and central office teams
Administrative & Program Support
- Manage case files and maintain detailed records of evaluations and follow-ups
- Assist with recruitment and training of care attendants
- Support program initiatives, including transitions and new care models

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (South Carolina)
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Compliance with health and safety requirements (including PPD testing)
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in nursing or related field
- Experience in public health nursing, long-term care, or disability services
- Background working with elderly populations, children with complex conditions, or individuals with disabilities
