About the Role: Registered Nurse / Preadmission Nurse (Casual)
Mercy Hospital is seeking an experienced registered nurse to join the Preadmissions and Outsourcing Team in a flexible casual capacity. This dual role plays a vital part in ensuring patients are thoroughly prepared for their procedures and receive safe, coordinated care before admission.
As a preadmission nurse, you will work closely with patients, their whānau (families), and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure all medical information is assessed accurately before surgery or treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct phone-based patient health assessments and clinical triage
- Accurately document patient information within clinical systems
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
- Manage daily workload allocation and meet data entry or communication targets
- Support safe and efficient pre-surgical preparation processes
This casual position provides flexibility, with shifts offered on an as-needed basis depending on hospital requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate both clinical expertise and strong communication abilities.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Knowledge of healthcare services and community support systems
- Strong patient education and communication skills
- High level of computer literacy and clinical documentation accuracy
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative healthcare team
- Effective time management and organisational skills
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in preadmissions or clinical assessment roles
- Familiarity with private healthcare systems and patient triage processes
