About the Role
As a Registered Nurse (Band 5), you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure every patient receives the right care at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient-centered nursing care across a range of clinical settings
- Collaborate with doctors, senior nurses, and healthcare teams
- Support and guide Healthcare Support Workers in daily tasks
- Assist Senior Charge Nurses and Charge Nurses in delivering effective care
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with clinical standards
- Adapt to a busy environment while maintaining professionalism and empathy
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking nurses who are:
- Registered with a valid UK NMC PIN
- Committed to delivering safe and compassionate care
- Strong communicators with excellent organisational skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible, proactive, and confident in high-pressure situations

Training & Support
Your journey with NHS Borders will begin with a structured onboarding process:
- Start Date: 7 September 2026 (first cohort)
- Minimum 2-week supernumerary orientation
- Dedicated support from an experienced Nurse Preceptor
This ensures you feel confident, supported, and fully prepared in your new role.

- Employment is subject to right to work in the UK, as determined by UK Visas and Immigration
- Candidates may be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme depending on role classification
- Pre-employment checks will be conducted in line with NHS Scotland policies
