Job Description

As an Outpatients Nurse, you will work with a high level of autonomy, assessing patient needs and delivering tailored care without direct supervision. This role is ideal for professionals who are confident in their clinical judgement and committed to maintaining the highest standards of nursing practice.

You will also take an active role in guiding and supporting other members of the nursing team, ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based care is consistently delivered.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Decision-Making

  • Independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Exercise professional judgement and accountability in all clinical decisions
  • Ensure patient safety and quality care at every stage

Leadership & Team Support

  • Supervise and support both registered and unregistered nursing staff
  • Promote best practices and maintain high clinical standards
  • Act as a role model within the clinical environment

Mentorship & Staff Development

  • Lead the induction and training of new and junior staff
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and supervision
  • Support continuous professional development and learning

Working Environment

This role is based within a busy Outpatients setting across two major acute hospitals:

  • University Hospital of Wales
  • University Hospital Llandough

You will work on a rotational or ad hoc basis depending on service needs and your professional development goals, offering valuable exposure to diverse clinical environments.

You will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of specialties, including:

  • General Medicine
  • Rheumatology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Gastroenterology
  • Immunology
  • Surgery (General, Colorectal, Vascular & Plastic)
  • Haematology
  • Dermatology
  • Respiratory
  • Cardiology

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Previous Outpatients experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.
