About the Clinical Nurse Role at Aruma

As a Clinical Nurse within Aruma’s Clinical Practice and Governance Unit, you will contribute to maintaining the highest standards of clinical safety and healthcare support across the organisation.

This role focuses on delivering clinical expertise, guidance, and leadership to support workers and Registered Nurses, while also advocating for the healthcare rights and needs of people with disability.

Your work will help improve health outcomes by ensuring participants receive safe, consistent, and effective healthcare support both within Aruma services and through external healthcare systems.

A Day in the Life of a Clinical Nurse at Aruma

Working as a Clinical Nurse at Aruma is both rewarding and impactful. Your responsibilities will include:

Clinical Assessment and Participant Support

  • Conduct clinical assessments for participants with complex health or high medical needs.
  • Identify support gaps and develop strategies to improve participant health outcomes.
  • Provide clinical advice for participants who are hospitalised and ensure continuity of care during transitions.

Staff Guidance and Clinical Support

  • Advise and guide staff on best-practice health support and clinical procedures.
  • Ensure competency and compliance for High Intensity Daily Personal Activities.
  • Deliver and evaluate health procedure training for support workers.

Advocacy and Healthcare Navigation

  • Advocate for participants to access appropriate healthcare services and treatment.
  • Implement strategies that improve primary care navigation and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
  • Contribute to advocacy initiatives that improve healthcare outcomes for people with disability.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Participate in Aruma forums and committees to address participant health support needs.
  • Mentor and guide future Registered Nurses within the Clinical Practice Unit.
  • Support the Clinical Manager in advancing strategic objectives and monitoring progress.

Skills and Qualifications Required

To succeed in this Clinical Nurse position at Aruma, you should bring strong clinical expertise along with a commitment to person-centred care.

Essential Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Qualification or training in intellectual disability nursing.
  • Experience supporting adults and children with complex medical needs.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical assessment, care planning, and healthcare advocacy.
  • Understanding of supported decision-making and consent to treatment for people with disability.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practice, particularly in intellectual disability and children’s out-of-home care.
  • Experience delivering and evaluating health procedure training for staff.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to analyse data, prepare reports, and use clinical data tools.
  • Strong understanding of the health and disability sectors, including NDIS compliance and funding frameworks.
  • Experience coordinating care across multiple service providers for complex needs.
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities to support Registered Nurses and Disability Support Workers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel when required.
