A History of Community Healthcare
The story of Corryong Health began in 1897, when plans were first made to build the original Corryong Cottage Hospital. By 1902, the foundation stone had been laid for what was then known as Victoria Cottage Hospital, providing essential medical care for the region.
In 1916, a new hospital building was established, strengthening healthcare services for the local community. Throughout the following decades, the organisation continued to grow, expanding services and increasing hospital capacity to meet rising healthcare needs.
A significant milestone came in 1983, when the Upper Murray Nursing Home, a 20-bed aged care facility, was opened to support older members of the community.
Evolving to Meet Community Needs
In the early 1990s, the organisation adopted a more flexible healthcare model by applying for the Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) Program. This approach enabled a broader and more coordinated range of services tailored to the needs of a rural and isolated community.
By 1995, the organisation began operating as Upper Murray Health & Community Services, delivering integrated healthcare across hospital, aged care, and community programs.
In 2017, following extensive community consultation, the organisation was renamed Corryong Health to make its services easier to identify and access for local residents.
