About CHI
CHI (Catholic Health Initiatives) is a faith-based, nonprofit health system dedicated to nurturing healthy communities nationwide. Founded in 1996 through the consolidation of four Catholic health systems, CHI continues to deliver high-quality care while emphasizing compassion, integrity, and service to all, especially the underserved.
Headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, CHI operates across 18 states, managing over 100 hospitals, including academic health centers, major teaching hospitals, and critical-access facilities. Beyond hospitals, CHI offers a wide array of services, including community health programs, accredited nursing colleges, home-health services, long-term care, and senior living communities, providing comprehensive support across the inpatient and outpatient continuum.
Our Mission and Impact
CHI’s mission is to create healthier communities by addressing both medical and social needs. In fiscal year 2018, CHI provided over $1.14 billion in financial assistance and community benefits, supporting free clinics, education programs, research initiatives, and care for the poor. Including unpaid Medicare costs, total community contributions reached approximately $2.1 billion.
With operating revenues of $15 billion and total assets of $20.5 billion, CHI combines scale and compassion, making it one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States.
