Key Responsibilities of a Rounding Nurse

Coordinate Interdisciplinary Care

Support daily rounds by ensuring real-time documentation, updating care boards, and facilitating communication between healthcare teams.

Ensure Safe and Timely Discharges

Collaborate with physicians and care teams to manage discharge orders, remove barriers, and prepare patients for a smooth transition home or to another facility.

Educate Patients and Families

Provide clear, easy-to-understand discharge instructions and identify learning needs related to medications, treatments, and recovery plans.

Promote Patient Safety and Quality Care

Monitor patient conditions, escalate concerns promptly, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital.

Support Clinical Teams

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of bedside clinical nursing experience

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Kansas or compact state)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)

Preferred Certifications

  • Medical-Surgical Nursing (RN-C or CMSRN)
  • Gerontology (RN-BC)
  • Progressive Care Nursing (PCCN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
