As a Registered Nurse in the In-Patient Surgical Unit, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating comprehensive nursing care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll support surgical patients throughout their recovery journey while upholding the organization’s core values of safety, compassion, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care
  • Deliver specialized surgical nursing care using evidence-based practices
  • Act as an in-charge or link nurse when required
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide junior staff and team members
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians and allied healthcare professionals
  • Assist in developing unit policies, procedures, and care standards
  • Ensure strict adherence to patient safety and confidentiality protocols
  • Support patient transfers and provide care during transport if needed
  • Adapt to different patient care areas as required by leadership

Clinical Skills & Competencies

Within six months of joining, you will develop and maintain competency in:

  • Parenteral nutrition (PN)
  • Central venous catheter (CVC) and PICC line care
  • Chest tube management
  • Orthopaedic traction
  • Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
  • Wound vacuum (VAC) therapy
  • Additional surgical care procedures as required

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Current registration with the Nurses’ Association of New Brunswick
  • Minimum 2 years of surgical nursing experience
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) (annual recertification required)
  • IV Therapy certification as per hospital standards
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Proven commitment to patient safety and quality care
  • Ability to work consistently and perform all required duties
