About the Community Nurse Role
This Community Nurse position is based at Waverley Medical Centre and supports the wider Rhins Community Nursing Team. The team delivers essential healthcare services across a large and diverse geographical area, including Stranraer and nearby rural communities such as Drummore, Portpatrick, and Glenluce.
This role is offered as a fixed-term contract for nine months, providing valuable experience within a progressive and collaborative healthcare environment.

A Transforming Community Healthcare Environment
Community healthcare across Dumfries and Galloway is currently evolving to improve patient outcomes and service accessibility. Community Nursing teams are becoming part of the newly established Home Team, working alongside a wide range of health and social care professionals.
As a Community Nurse, you may occasionally support treatment room services or assist other areas depending on regional service needs. This dynamic approach ensures patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care.
Work Schedule and Service Coverage
Community Nursing operates as a 24/7 healthcare service, ensuring continuous support for patients across the region.
Your role will include:
- Rotating shift work including night duty
- Overnight community nursing coverage with a Registered Nurse and Healthcare Support Worker
- Travelling across multiple locations to provide care in patients’ homes
Due to the nature of community healthcare, this position involves regular driving across rural and urban areas.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change framework will introduce a reduction in the full-time working week from 37 hours to 36 hours, with a corresponding adjustment in hourly rates so that overall pay remains unchanged.
