About Company

Delivering trusted public healthcare to more than 830,000 people, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) stands at the heart of community wellbeing across metropolitan and coastal NSW. Guided by a clear purpose — Working Together to Improve the Health and Wellbeing of our Community — SESLHD brings together hospitals, community health centres, and specialist services to provide safe, inclusive, and patient-focused care.

By combining clinical excellence with compassion, SESLHD ensures every individual receives care that respects their needs, culture, and circumstances.

A Public Health Network Serving South Eastern Sydney

SESLHD spans nine Local Government Areas — from Sydney’s CBD to the Royal National Park — supporting one of Australia’s most culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

With over 10,000 healthcare professionals, the district operates an integrated network of public hospitals, community health centres, and specialist clinics delivering:

  • Acute and emergency care
  • Preventive and early intervention services
  • Mental health and drug & alcohol support
  • Rehabilitation and palliative care
  • Women’s, youth, and sexual health services
  • Diagnostic imaging and pathology

This coordinated model strengthens continuity of care and improves long-term health outcomes.

Hospitals & Key Facilities Across the District

SESLHD manages eight public hospitals and one public nursing home, each playing a vital role in delivering accessible, high-quality healthcare:

  • Prince of Wales Hospital
  • Royal Hospital for Women
  • St George Hospital
  • Sutherland Hospital
  • Sydney Eye Hospital
  • War Memorial Hospital (in partnership with Uniting)
  • Garrawarra Centre
  • Calvary Healthcare Sydney (in partnership with Little Company of Mary Health Care)

Residents of Lord Howe Island are also supported through Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital, ensuring access to essential hospital and statewide services despite geographic distance.

Community & Preventive Health Services

Healthcare extends far beyond hospital settings. SESLHD operates:

  • 28 Child and Family Health Centres
  • 12 Community Health Centres
  • 9 Oral Health Clinics

These facilities focus on prevention, early intervention, and community-based treatment, helping individuals remain well and reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.

Specialist services include:

  • Mental health programs
  • Drug and alcohol treatment services
  • Breast screening
  • HIV/AIDS and sexual health clinics
  • Women’s and youth health services
  • Public health initiatives
  • Diagnostic imaging and pathology

This integrated system ensures patients can access coordinated, local care close to home.
